Welcome to our piano studio! Here are quick answers to the most common questions about our lessons and policies.
Students need an acoustic piano (tuned once a year) or a digital piano with 88 weighted keys, plus an adjustable bench and a metronome.
Regular practice is required 5 to 7 days a week, and building this habit from day one is essential for student success. Beginners should practice 15–20 minutes daily, intermediate students 30–45 minutes, and advanced students 45–60 minutes. Parents of beginner students need to assist by checking assignment notebooks daily to ensure all assignments are completed. During lessons, I teach students how to practice effectively at home so they learn to practice with intention, rather than just playing through the notes.
Yes! I teach students of all ages, from young children to adults. Lessons are tailored to fit your personal music goals, whether you are learning for fun, returning to music or starting for the first time.
Yes! I offer a 30-minute trial lesson for $35.00 with no commitments. It’s a great way to meet and see if the studio is a good fit.
I offer 45-minute and 60-minute weekly lessons.
Students in Primer through Level 3 take 45-minute lessons. Once a student reaches Level 4, I recommend moving to 60 minutes to cover more advanced repertoire and theory.
Parents are welcome to watch the trial lesson. After that, regular lessons are 1-on-1 to help students build focus and independence. Parents and siblings do not wait inside the studio during lesson time.
Fingernails must be kept trimmed short so students can use proper hand posture, avoid clicking sounds on the keys and play comfortably.
Tuition reserves your weekly spot and is non-refundable. If you give at least 24 hours’ notice, you qualify for a make-up (subject to teacher availability). Lessons canceled with short notice or no-shows cannot be made up.
Please do not come to the studio sick! If you are sick or out of town, we can hold your lesson during your normal time via FaceTime/Messenger or do an asynchronous video lesson (you send videos, and I send feedback).
You will receive a studio calendar for the year.
"Absent": Means a lesson was missed and needs a make-up.
"Absent" with a checkmark: Means the make-up lesson has been completed.
Please give 3 weeks' notice for long summer breaks. Students absent for more than 3 consecutive weeks may lose their reserved time slot.
Tuition covers four lessons per month, regardless of how many weeks fall in a given month. Payment is due on the 10th of each month, and late payments will incur a fee. Accepted payment methods are Zelle, Venmo and Apple Pay.
I choose the books for each student and will either order them for you (added to your next bill) or send you direct links to buy them.
Participation in studio recitals is expected, as it helps build confidence! Competitions and festivals are optional.
